Dear colleague,

The Congress “80 Anniversary of the Institute of Tropical Medicine Pedro Kourí”,  9th National Congress of Microbiology and Parasitology, 6th National Congress of Tropical Medicine and International Symposium on HIV/aids infection in Cuba, will be held from 5 to 8 December 2017 at the Havana International Conference Center. These congresses will provide a room for updating, exchange experiences and knowledge on the role of the microbiology and parasitology in addressing infectious diseases, emerging and re-emerging and neglected tropical diseases.

Zika, dengue and other arbovirus diseases, HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, cholera, influenza, microbial resistance, capacity strengthening, and globalization of infectious diseases and others will be important topics for discussion. The historical background of the Cuban microbiology and parasitology as well as the development of the Institute of Tropical Medicine is these 80 years will be showed.

Pre-congresses courses will be held on Monday 4, 2017 at the Institute of Tropical Medicine “Pedro Kouri”, IPK. Registration to the courses is independent of congress registration. Those interested to attend the pre-congress courses should ask for their registration at the course of interest

Those interested should register at the congress site and should submit their abstracts. Once registered, you will have full access to the published congress information. Registration at the congress does not guarantee the attendance at the congress. The Scientific Committee will define the abstracts to be accepted for presentation. Authors will be informed in due time. Decisions of the Scientific Committee are final.

The review process starts once you have registered on this website and have chosen the role of  “author”  to fill out the registration form and later on to submit your abstract.

Acceptance of the abstract and assignment to a session are determined solely by the Scientific Committee that will determine the abstracts to present at the congress.

Authors of the accepted abstracts for oral presentation should refer to the Scientific Committee the audiovisual aids they would need as support for their presentation.

The Scientific Committee shall have up to 15 days to notify the authors.

Abstracts should be submitted via the website

After this date, participation at the congress and abstract inclusion at the congress proceedings are not guaranteed.

All abstracts must be submitted electronically through the electronic abstract submission system

The summary of work should be structured according to the following order:

  • Title of the work: in uppercase and bold.
  • Author (s): beginning with the first last name, followed by a comma and the name. When more than one author, a semicolon is used to separate the names. The author should be stressed for the presentation of the work.
  • Affiliation: Indicate the work center of the authors and country. If they are several, indicate with a superscript number.
  • Contact email: Write an e-mail address for correspondence with the author responsible for the work.
  • Text: It will be written in lowercase, using size 12 from the letter Arial to line spacing 1. Extension: no more than 250 words. The content of the abstract will be written without repeating the title of the paper and following the following structured scheme: Introduction, Material and methods, Results, Conclusions. You cannot include tables or a figure. Unexplained abbreviations should be avoided. Respect nomenclatures for scientific names. Numbers, abbreviations and symbols for international use should be used.
  • Keywords (cannot match summary title).

Key Aspects

Papers must be related to the topics of the Congress.

After the deadline of abstract submission, author/lecturer either in poster or oral presentation will be informed about his/her acceptance. The Scientific Committee will be responsible for the acceptance decision.

Lecturers must add the registration to the Congress in order to be included in the Program.

Oral presentations (master lectures, round tables or symposia) will be made preferably with audiovisual aids.

There is a designated area for poster presentations. Size of these posters: 1.0 x 1.5 meters. Poster design (material, color, text, amount of figures, so forth) will be from author´s and exhibitor´s viewpoint, respecting the limits of the designated area

Poster structure: Title, author´s full name, introduction/objectives, materials, methods, results and conclusions

An abstract, written in English, will be included in the Program if author/lecturer requires it.

Acceptance of the abstract and assignment to a session are determined solely by the Scientific Committee.  Submitting authors are required to insure that all listed co-authors have reviewed the abstract, take responsibility for its content and agree with being listed as co-author. The Organizing Committee is not responsible for any conflict of interest that may arise.

Pre-congress courses will be held at the “Pedro Kouri” Tropical Medicine Institute (IPK), on 4 December 2015. Courses lasts 4-8 hrs. Only one course by applicant is allowed. Maximum number of participants (40), and minimum (15).
